Problem: Energy loss & corrosion on un-insulated steam & condensate pipes in underground vault.

Equipment: High pressure steam and condensate piping of steam distribution system.

Location: Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti, MI

Goals:

  1. Improve operating efficiency of steam system by insulating pipe (both steam & condensate).

  2. Stop corrosion.

  3. Install insulation that does not absorb moisture when vault floods and start hidden corrosion.

Solution: Coat pipe with CCS-100

With an application of CCS-100:

  1. The pipes are insulated and meet OSHA personnel burn requirements.

  2. Corrosion is halted.

  3. CCS-100 does not degrade when vault floods. Insulation works under water just as efficiently as in dry air and does not absorb moisture.

  4. Vault ambient temperature lowered to the mid-90º's.

  5. When the pit floods, there is no steam produced because the CCS does not absorb water.
