Problem: Energy loss & corrosion on un-insulated steam & condensate pipes in underground vault. Equipment: High pressure steam and condensate piping of steam distribution system. Location: Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti, MI Goals:
Improve operating efficiency of steam system by insulating pipe (both steam & condensate).
Stop corrosion.
Install insulation that does not absorb moisture when vault floods and start hidden corrosion.
Solution: Coat pipe with CCS-100
With an application of CCS-100:
The pipes are insulated and meet OSHA personnel burn requirements.
Corrosion is halted.
CCS-100 does not degrade when vault floods. Insulation works under water just as efficiently as in dry air and does not absorb moisture.
Vault ambient temperature lowered to the mid-90º's.
When the pit floods, there is no steam produced because the CCS does not absorb water.
